Post & Beam Architecture is NOT Synonymous with Log Home Living

March 19, 2009

Many people see the terms “post and beam” or “timber frame” as synonymous with log home living.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Log homes tend to be more rustic with a sometimes overwhelming amount of wood exposed on the interior.  Post and beam homes expose the timber structure in the interior while still allowing for the warmth of painted or plastered walls.  The pictures that follow will clear up that misunderstanding in a hurry.  There are as many different architectural styles built in the post and beam tradition as there are in the regular, or stick-built, form.

The owner of this gorgeous RI post and beam mimiced parts of her historic Boston area home while simultaniously incorperating the beauty of the exposed timber frame. She calls it "Having my cake and eating it, too." I couldn't agree more!

This one wins the award for "Best Alternative Use of the Post & Beam". It's an abbey (read: church) in Southern CA! How Devine!!!
