Ever notice that every time you see a really great barn there’s always one feature present? What is it, you ask? Why, the cupola, of course!

Cupolas were first used during the 8th Century in Islamic architecture atop minarets. It’s believed nomadic Moors brought them to Europe by way of Spain. Their domed and pointed shapes were used on churches to prevent snow from accumulating and collapsing the structure.

Okay, this picture has nothing to do with churches in Europe but I just couldn't help myself as I LOVE this shot!

Today cupolas combine aesthetic design and practical utility. They allow for inexpensive lighting and ventilation for an attic or lofted area while providing amazing views and a beautiful architectural look for a home or barn. See for yourself!

What a gorgeous barn and cupola!!!
